09/29/2008 Hot Toys Alien Captain Dallas 1/6 Scale Poseable Model Kit review
The box is the standard large rectangle box that they have been using for most of their Alien/Aliens/AVP figures but this one has some cool graphics to it. It looks like Dallas is looking right out at his helmet at you.
The back of the box has several shots of the figure and the accessories inside.
And then the flap opens revealing the figure inside. As you can already tell there is little assembly required - only the figure's hands and feet need attached. Good thing too as the instructions were generic ones for both this figure and the upcoming Kane. I was able to figure out most of it without any trouble.
Once you get it open and assembled, you will get a great figure to display.
But remember this is really more of a poseable statue - it won't hold up to child's play. This toy is fragile.
The suit itself looks great but it is made of rubber giving it an odd feeling when touching the figure. I wonder how this suit will hold up to the years of being in a collection. I hope it won't dry rot. Mine does have a couple of small gaps in the rubber suit where the sleeves meet the shoulders. It isn't bad but you can spot them if you are looking for them.
All those straps will come off so the individual equipment can be removed. I choose not to do this because I knew it would be a major for me to get them all back on. However if you choose to do so, you will be able to get the whole suit off exposing the body underneath. I suspect it is just a plain nude figure body.
The first accessory I will go over is the stand. This is a great looking stand at first and is a departure from the regular stands these figures have been coming with. I like how it doubles as a diorama base. Mine doesn't work so well however. The upright brace piece does not fit tightly into the base causing the figure to tip over easily. This figure has some substantial weight to it because of that big rubber suit so it tips over much easier than I would care for.
The egg is removable from the base and is a bit too glossy for my taste in comparison to the rest of the piece. My main complaint is how mine was put together. It is two pieces and the seam is extremely noticeable on mine. There wasn't much care in putting this together.
The backpack is great looking all around but I have issues with it as well. The large hose that comes out of the helmet didn't fit very well on it because there is a wire in the hose making it bendable that sticks out too far.
There are lights down the left hand side that will light up when you push the button between the red and blue colored rectangles on the right side of the pack. This is cool but you need to keep the button pushed to keep the lights lit. I would have preferred a switch that could keep them on for as long as I wanted them on. Continue on to page 2 |
